Illinois Watch Co. Springfield USA Pocket Watch

Illinois pocket watch front

Illinois pocket watch front

Hi there,

I have my grandfathers pocket watch from the Illinois watch co and would like to find more out about it. It has the serial number on the movement: 1021520 so I think its from research, from around 1890? Is this correct? I think it is solid silver.

It has silver hallmarks from I think Gorham Corp. They are a Lion facing left, an anchor and an S, also the initials F.K. There are similar hallmarks on the movement cover and keychain. There are also what appears to be very small signatures/inscriptions where the hallmarks are.

Can anybody tell me what model this is, its size and movement? Or any other information that could be of interest? I seem to have hit a wall online.

many thanks

Marc

Illinois watch
by: Anonymous

Hi Jay,
According to the Illinois Bible, your watch has likely been recased as it is a Hunter case movement.
It is a 14 size 7 jewel Model 1 Grade 120 ca: 1890.
Some of this grade was made for European export.
It will be silver with those hallmarks and that can be found under silver hallmarks, likely .900.
Hope this helps,
Bill
