I get plenty of emails here at Antique Pocket Watch, and many of you have asked whether I could dedicate a section of the site especially for Antique & Collectible Clocks. Well, it's taken a few years before I've eventually made time for it, but here it is for all you clock collectors out there!
For some reason those days have remained with me all my life, and so I am sure I owe my love of time-machines to my dear grandfather, and of course my long suffering grand mother too.
Most of the clocks he had were what I now know as Mantle or Mantel Clocks, but of course there was the centrepiece of his collection that stood tall in the corner of the sitting room, the Longcase, or as it is more commonly known, the Grandfather clock. Looking magnificent with its walnut exterior, the case of the clock was as fascinating as all the innards inside it, pulleys, cables, lead weights, and a pendulum. For a young boy it was just so fascinating!
I wish I could have taken a picture of it, but there was no such thing as a digital camera back in those days, and of course eventually all his wonderful clocks were sold, given away or even thrown out in the garbage. Such a shame.
As time goes by, many people are realizing that an antique clock is more than just a good looking ornament, it can also be a very good investment too.
Happy Clock Collecting!
